Exploring Oklahoma Breweries

Writer: Samantha AckermanSamantha Ackerman

Oklahoma City is growing and the breweries are only growing with it. There are around 15 breweries in the Oklahoma City area and that number is continuously climbing. After beginning Roadee, I have been lucky enough to visit several of them and meet the people who are in charge of operations, social media, or managing the business. Although this is a competitive industry, I have been able to find a sense of love and community within each brewery.

The breweries that I have visited include Anthem Brewing Company, Coop Ale Works, and Stonecloud Brewing Company. Roadee plans on exploring Vanessa House Brewing Company, Prairie Artisan Ales, Twisted Spike, Roughtail Brewing, and Angry Scotsman Brewing before the year ends.

The breweries I have visited have a variety of quality beers and there is definitely a beer for everyone at all of them. Beforehand, I had no idea that these breweries featured more than just their core beers, but all the breweries I have ventured to have many interchangeable brews just for their taprooms.

These small batch brews are my favorite beers that I have had so far. These beers would include; Stonecloud’s Chug Norris and Watermelon Slice T-Shirt, Anthem’s Farmhouse Ale and Mangose, and Coop’s Id Oak Aged Sour Ale and Grapefruit F5 IPA.

These supreme beers only tell me that there are only more great beers to try here in Oklahoma. Roadee cannot wait to visit more breweries.

Oklahoma City has plenty of places that offer local beers, but they have finally mapped out the perfect beer tour. With the assistance of a designated driver or Uber/Lyft, your tour begins at Oak and Oar, a taproom in the Plaza District. Oak and Oar features on of the biggest selections of local beer on tap, then head on over to McNellie's Public House in Midtown. This Pub features over 350 beers from all of the world. Tapwerks Ale House is the next pit stop, again featuring hundreds of brews, including many local ones. Although Tapwerks has a quality selection of beer, the best part is the building itself, it looks like an actual Irish Pub.

Many local breweries do tours. Coop Ale Works has tours on Saturdays, Anthem Brewing Co. allows guests to schedule tours, and Stonecloud Brewing Co has tours midday on Saturday as well.
